The Wait Is Finally Over - Apply Now for a Studio in The Old Library

02.01.2015

The Art House is delighted to announce that applications are now open for artists interested in taking up one of the 34 brand new studio spaces in Wakefield's Grade II Listed Drury Lane Library conversion.

Our £3m conversion is in its final stages. We are now looking for exciting, inspired and passionate artists to bring the building to life.

This is your chance to join a community of artists housed within one of the most iconic buildings in Wakefield.

Due to open in April 2015, The Old Library Studios are the culmination of months of planning and work by The Art House to convert one of Wakefield's best-loved buildings into a unique space for use by artists, businesses and the public.

The refurbished library will house 34 artists’ studios, meeting rooms, offices and public spaces, linked to the current Art House building by an impressive double-height glazed extension to form a new public entrance on Mulberry Way.

If you are looking for a workspace where you can be fully immersed in your practice and surrounded by like-minded artists, The Old Library Studios could be perfect for you.

We expect the demand for studios in The Old Library to be high and suspect that we may not be able to accommodate everyone who would like to take on a studio.

Applicants should have clear reasons for wishing to be based at The Art House, and a willingness to make an active contribution to the artistic culture of the organisation. We plan to build a thriving community of artists and are looking for studio holders who can demonstrate an active commitment to ongoing contemporary art practice. If that's you, we want to hear from you.

What we can offer in return are affordable, accessible studio spaces in a truly unique setting, alongside support from The Art House team in helping to develop your practice and build a sustainable creative business.

Below is a breakdown of the process and timescale for applications.

Applications will be accepted until all studio spaces have been allocated

From 1 February 2015 – Shortlisted applicants contacted for studio tours and offers of studios made.

14 February 2015 – Deadline for successful applicants to confirm acceptance of studio space offered. £100 bond to be paid to secure space.
