10,000 Reasons to Vote for the Art House - YBS Legacy Fund Public Vote

Please help us turn what's behind this door into a lasting legacy for Wakefield...

The Art House has been shortlisted by the Yorkshire Building Society as part of its Lasting Legacy Fund. We are one of 30 charities to make the public vote for a £10,000 donation to celebrate the Society's 150th Anniversary.

If successful we would use the £10,000 to restore the old reading room in Wakefield’s Drury Lane Library development – creating a fully-accessible space to bring artists, communities and audiences closer together in a unique space where old meets new. The money will fund the restoration of original features, including pre-war tiling, oak shelving and the imposing librarian’s desk and the addition of digital data points, and facilities especially adapted for artists and visitors with physical and sensory disabilities.

Project Director, Angela Galvin said today: “We are thrilled that The Reading Room has been shortlisted for the Yorkshire Building Society Lasting Legacy Fund public vote. A vote for The Reading Room will not only help us preserve the features of this beautiful building but also create a resource for disabled artists and visitors that will be used long into the future. We hope you'll feel inspired to help us make a real difference to our community by voting for The Reading Room project online.”

Yorkshire Building Society’s Corporate Responsibility Manager Pauline Giroux, said:  “We were very impressed with The Art House’s project and placed it on the final shortlist for the benefits it could deliver. It’s now down to the public to vote for the three projects which they feel will provide the biggest lasting legacy for local communities.”

Please vote for us by visiting www.ybs.co.uk/legacy and selecting The Creative Art House - restoration of reading room from the list. Voting closes on 31 October 2014.

Your vote can really make a difference and will help us create something very special in Wakefield.

Thank you for your support
