BELAY Artist and Art House Member, Ryan Baxendale in The Ridings Shopping Centre

07.08.2014

This week, one of our BELAY Artists, Ryan Baxendale, began work on a new commission in The Ridings Shopping Centre in Wakefield.

At the time of writing, Ryan has already spent over 50 hours up a ladder in The Ridings transposing one the designs he has put together to decorate five large pillars in the shopping centre.

He said today "I'm really enjoying being in The Ridings. The days are long but it's fun working in a public space. People keep stopping to have a look and to say hello. I am so grateful to The Art House - if they hadn't sent me details of this opportunity I would never have known about it."

Ryan is one of 30 artists currently enrolled on The Art House's BELAY Programme - a FREE Creative Mentoring Programme for visual artists living or working in Wakefield. We are still recruiting artists onto the programme.

BELAY is funded by The Regional Competitiveness and Employment Programme European Regional Development Fund Programme 2007 to 2013.  The Department for Communities and Local Government is the managing authority for the European Regional Development Fund Programme, which is one of the funds established by the European Commission to help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support local businesses and create jobs.
