WORKSHOP Reduction Lino Print with Stuart Brocklehurst

16.05.2015 to 17.05.2015

10am - 4pm

Stuart Brocklehurst is a practicing artist printmaker. Previously he has led workshops at Prospect Studios in Rossendale and Doncaster Art Gallery. Stuart was recently invited by the Field Studies Council to teach a Linocut Printmaking Course at Malham Tarn Field Study Centre.

This weekend masterclass will teach participants the skills needed to make multi-colour prints from a single lino block, giving a strong foundation in the techniques and materials used. Using examples from his own practice, Stuart will teach hand printing using a Japanese baren to apply pressure so that the process can be repeated at home, without the need for a press.

The workshop will cover preparing the lino, choosing an image, composition and reversal of the image when transferring it to the lino, cutting the block, registration of the block and paper, printing and cleaning of the block before cutting for the next colour and repeating the process of registration and printing. Students will be helped to select their own drawings for transferring to the lino, cutting out and subsequently printing.

All materials and tools will be provided.
