Course Description

Join artist Luke Thompson at The Art House for a new 6-week course on the art of Portrait Drawing & Painting this November. Throughout the course you will explore a range of classical portraiture techniques, designed to help you develop your skills, knowledge and confidence. This course will particularly focus on the drawing phase in graphite and charcoal.

You will be working in a relaxed creative space at the heart of our bustling studio complex and taking inspiration from a mix of photography, self-portrait and life models.

Who is the course for?

This workshop is suitable for adult beginners and improvers. Small classes sizes mean you’ll enjoy hands on tuition to get the most from the experience.

Do I need to bring anything?

Yes, you will need to bring some personal materials, such as papers, pencils and paints. You won’t need these for the first session however and more information will be provided each week regarding the next week’s materials.

Some equipment, such as easels and boards will be provided. Tea, coffee and water will be provided but you may wish to bring some snacks with you.

Your Tutor

Luke Thompson is an artist and musician based in Leeds. His portraiture methods are based upon contemporary realism, with a strong influence from classical practices. His teaching approach brings the mystery of the master techniques to light, breaking the process down into stages, enabling the student to successfully achieve a likeness and be creative in their own expression. Through his own creative work, he aims to communicate the raw complexities of the portrait, finding a mutual connection of feeling between the subject, artist, and the viewer.

Luke regularly takes on commissions and runs workshops across Yorkshire. For any enquiries
