23.07.2016 to 23.07.2016

This event has now been cancelled. To keep up to date with news of forthcoming workshops please sign up to our mailing list HERE

10-4pm
Tutor: Jim Souper

Following a brief introduction to the history and principles of cyanotype, participants will explore a number of ways to create cyanotype images - by placing objects directly onto the paper (photograms), from photographic negatives and from images printed or drawn on acetate sheets. Participants will make images using both natural sunlight (weather permitting!) and UV light, using The Art House's exposure unit. We will also coat a sheet of cyanotype paper to use at home.

Sir John Herschel invented the cyanotype process in 1842. It uses sunlight, or any UV light source, to produce a photograph with Prussian blue tones. Anna Atkinson used the process to produce photograms of her collection of plant forms, making cyanotype one of the first photographic processes used to illustrate a book.
