Liz Salter
Artist statement
Liz Salter’s chief interest is landscape, which she loves to explore on foot, recording her experience in sketchbooks and through the camera lens. Back in her studio and away from the enchanting spell of the land, these records of the landscape, together with the vivid recollection of the experience, are changed into visual equivalents in the painting. The colour reflects the scrutiny and observation of those changes in the shape of the weather and the light on the land.
Liz Salter has always painted. A career in Theatre Design was followed by teaching textiles and embroidery in colleges in Yorkshire before taking up painting full time and gaining an MA in Fine Art at the University of Leeds. She has exhibited widely Britain and in Ireland. Her work is in private collections in this country and abroad.
